Steps for becoming a Volunteer
We ask that our volunteers commit to a minimum of 50 hours
of service within a 6-month period, serving at least one
2 to 4 hour shift per week. Morning and afternoon shifts
are available in most service areas. Evening and weekend
shifts are available in some service areas. Potential volunteers
who are able to meet these requirements should follow the
steps listed below:
1. Application and Interview
You can now fill out our volunteer application by clicking
here.
Or contact Volunteer Services at 878-6000 extension 2248
to request a print application packet.
Once your application is submitted, a criminal background
check will be run by our Human Resources department. When
the background check is approved by Human Resources, we
will contact you to schedule an interview with a member
of the Volunteer Services staff.
At this time, we will discuss your interests, skills, and
availability. You will register for the next orientation
session and be given a paperwork packet to complete.
2. Health Screening
Complete a health screening, which includes a two-step tuberculin
skin test and immunization check.
3. Orientation
Attend Volunteer Orientation. These sessions are held the
third Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in
the Cancer Center Education Room. This session will cover
basic hospital policies and safety procedures, customer
service standards, and a review of the volunteer handbook.
Once these steps have been completed, you will be ready
to begin specific training for your assigned service area
and join our team of dedicated and valuable volunteers!
