Steps for becoming a Volunteer

We ask that our volunteers commit to a minimum of 50 hours of service within a 6-month period, serving at least one 2 to 4 hour shift per week. Morning and afternoon shifts are available in most service areas. Evening and weekend shifts are available in some areas.
1. Application and Interview
Once your application is submitted, you will receive notification by the Volunteer Services department. If your interest, skills, and availability meet our current needs, you will be scheduled for an interview. You will receive an information packet and criminal background form to complete at the interview. The background check will be run and approved by the Human Resources department.
2. General Orientation
Upon clearance of the background check, you will be notified to complete the online orientation information or you may request a printed packet.
3. Volunteer Specific Orientation
These sessions are held typically the third Tuesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the hospital’s Cancer Center Education Room. This session is a follow-up of the orientation material, and includes more specific information for volunteering, as well as a tour.
4. Health Screen
Complete a health screening, which includes a two-step tuberculin skin test, seasonal flu shot, and immunization check.
Once these steps have been completed, you will train in your assigned service area and join our team of dedicated and valuable volunteers!
