Quality Indicators

Because there a number of areas to measure hospital care, we want to share with our patients and their families the most accurate and timely information available for High Point Medical Center. Below, you will find information on how High Point Medical Center compares nationally to other hospitals in these areas. It is our mission to look for ways to continue improving in each of these categories.

CAUTI-Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections: A catheter is a drainage tube inserted into a patient’s bladder through the urethra and left in place to collect urine.   These catheters can become an easy way for germs to enter the body and cause infections in the urinary tract.  They may be preventable when healthcare providers use infection control steps recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Blood Infections: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a type of bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics.   Prevention of hospital acquired infections may be attempted by taking certain precautions, like washing hands, and using protective gloves and gowns.   Responsible use of antibiotics include limiting the amount to only what is needed to combat the infection.

Clostridium difficile (C.diff.) Intestinal Infections: Clostridium difficile (C-diff.) is a type of bacteria that causes inflammation of the colon. C. diff. can cause severe diarrhea, fever, appetite loss, nausea, and abdominal pain. Hospital staff and visitors can prevent the transmission of C.diff. by using certain precautions such as handwashing, using protective gloves and gowns; practicing responsible use of antibiotics; covering the mouth, nose and eyes when appropriate; and sterilizing equipment between patients. Practicing responsible use of antibiotics is also important in combatting this infection.
