Gastroenterological Support

The bariatric surgery process sometimes calls for the support of gastroenterology. The Regional Center for Bariatric Surgery has two doctors on staff providing this.

Lester Hurrelbrink, MD, completed both his undergraduate studies and medical degree at Louisiana State University. His residency training was served at the Department of Medicine Medical University of South Carolina. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with a sub-specialty in Gastroenterology.

John J. Walker, MD, a native of Fayetteville, NY, earned his medical degree at the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Science Center in Syracuse. During medical school Dr. Walker was inducted into several honor societies, and was awarded the President's and the Dean's Letters of Commendation. Dr. Walker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Siena College in Loudonville, NY, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Walker completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine at the SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, where he also served as chief resident, and completed a Categorical Program in Internal Medicine. Dr. Walker has been published in several international medical journals for his research in his areas of interest.
