CancerFITT and ReVitalize
Share |

These programs are designed to help cancer survivors improve quality of life through supervised exercise and physical therapy.

New research in cancer treatment is beginning to dispel many of the myths and early fears about the safety, feasibility and efficacy of exercise as a quality-of-life intervention following a cancer diagnosis.

One of the most dramatic new findings relates to the issue of fatigue during and after cancer treatment. Studies now suggest that increased physical exercise results in less fatigue for the cancer patient.

CancerFITT
Functional Independence Through Training

CancerFitt is a 12-week supervised, group exercise class designed specifically for cancer patients.
• Class meets twice a week
• Provides progressive cardiovascular, strength and flexibility exercises
• Guided relaxation techniques
• Informative education sessions
• Led by exercise physiologists
• Physician release required

Studies consistently demonstrate:
• Exercise has beneficial effects on a wide variety of quality-of-life
outcomes regardless of the type of exercise, cancer site, cancer
treatment, or whether or not the person is currently undergoing
   treatment.
• Exercise for cancer survivors may decrease the risk of co-morbid
conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and stroke.
• There is a strong relationship between exercise and stress reduction.
• Moderate exercise can have a positive effect on the immune system.
• Exercise can improve body composition, increasing muscle mass and
   decreasing fat.
• Exercise may facilitate the ability to return to work.

REVITALIZE
cancer related fatigue program

ReVitalize addresses Cancer Related Fatigue (CRF), a state of overwhelming exhaustion and decreased ability to perform physical and mental work that is not relieved by rest.

• Sessions conducted by a licensed physical therapist
• Evaluates and treats clients’ fatigue and musculoskeletal deficits
• Teaches causes of CRF and a wide range of proven interventions
• Clients may be transitioned to the CancerFITT class
• Cost is insurance reimbursable
• Physician referral required
