Think First
Brain and Spinal Cord Injury
Prevention Program
Each year an estimated 500,000
people in the United States sustain permanent brain or spinal
cord injuries. Teens and young adults are at highest risk
for these devastating injuries, many of which are preventable.
Think First, the National Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Prevention
Program, is an award-winning public education effort targeting
teens and young adults. Developed by America's Neurosurgeons,
it is presented at no charge to Junior and Senior High Schools.
There is also a Think First for Kids program available for
younger children. Both of these upbeat programs educate young
people about personal vulnerability and risk taking.
Think First symbolizes organized neurosurgery's belief that
young people can use their minds to protect their bodies.
Since it's inception in 1986, nearly 5 million young people
have received the message.
Locally, Johnson Neurological Clinic has presented the Think
First program to more than 15,000 students in Guilford, Forsyth,
Randolph and Davidson Counties.
