Many cancer patients require admission for inpatient services at some point in their treatment. Our Oncology Care Unit, located on the 3rd floor of the Hayworth Cancer Center, provides 18 inpatient beds to serve patients as they recover from cancer surgeries, receive other cancer treatments, or need round-the-clock care for the management of disease-related symptoms.
Inpatient care is provided by a team of oncology and chemotherapy-certified nurses with special expertise and experience in caring for cancer patients. The unit is staffed with a one-to-six nurse-to-patient ratio. A multidisciplinary approach to patient care means that patients have access to the entire team of cancer specialists including the nutritionist, chaplain, social worker, physical therapist, and patient care coordinator.
All patient rooms are private. Each room has a couch or pull-out sleep chair that may be used by family members to stay overnight with the patient. There are also refrigerators in each room. Patients can have food from home if they are not on a restricted diet. A large family room with a full kitchen and dining room enable families who are experiencing longer stays to have a comfortable place to spend time together. Patients may choose to visit the unit's sun porch or meditation room.
