Oncology Dietitian

Research has shown nutrition is an important part of cancer treatment. The Hayworth Cancer Center offers both an inpatient and outpatient oncology dietitian to maximize patients’ nutritional status before, during, and after treatment.
The Inpatient Oncology Dietitian assesses nutritional risks and needs, providing appropriate supplements as needed. They also work with the physician in managing tube feedings or total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
The Outpatient Oncology Dietitian can help set and reach goals of proper nutrition during treatment. Counseling can help alleviate common symptoms of treatment such as nausea, vomiting, taste and smell alterations, bowel changes, hydration status, mucositis/stomatitis, and preservation of lean muscle mass by maintaining body weight during treatment. They may provide suggestions for nutritional supplements as well as incorporate a variety of well-tolerated recipes made with ingredients suitable for the side effect.
