Exercise

After bariatric surgery, the body responds by increasing the absorption of calories, which causes you to use both fat and muscle. Regular exercise that eventually combines aerobic and strength can help preserve and expand muscle mass.

For the first two weeks, walk four days a week for 10 minutes per day in morning and afternoon, at a comfortable pace.

For the second week through the second month, walk four days a week for 25 minutes or five days a week for 20 minutes, begin water aerobics and a mild weight program.

For the second month and beyond, split your time between cardiovascular and strength training for a goal of 150 minutes weekly: Three days a week for 50 minutes a day or five days a week for 30 minutes daily.
