Surgical Infection Prevention



At High Point Regional, our surgical care staff understand the importance of preventing infections and blood clots after surgery. Hospitals can reduce the risk of wound infection after surgery and blood clots  by making sure patients get the right medicines at the right time on the day of their surgery and immediately after surgery.

Getting an antibiotic within one hour before surgery reduces the risk of wound infections. Hospitals should check to make sure surgery patients get antibiotics at the right time.

Prevention of blood clots in the legs is a critical measure to better outcomes. This is done by ordering the prevention measures and then patients receiving them in a timely manner.  These two measures show this process.
