A Nursing Career
at High Point Regional...
Welcome to Nursing Excellence at High
Point Regional. During our strategic planning meetings in
2005, having a Web presence for and about nursing in our system
was seen as a priority.
Nursing is one word with many interpretations. Nursing is
the profession that many admire, few understand and only nurses
can appreciate. Nursing is not about giving medications, it
is understanding the affect medications have on the healing,
and sometimes, dying process. Nursing is not about changing
dressings, it is understanding the healing process of wounds
and the importance of the environment in the healing process.
Nursing is not about collecting information (vital signs,
lab values), it is understanding the anatomy, physiology and
what things impact “normal” to create “abnormal”.
Nursing is not about washing hands, it is understanding that
hand washing is the best way to prevent the spread of infection.
Nursing is caring for, and about people during their most
vulnerable moments. Nursing is about relationships—forged
in the best of times and the worst of times. Nursing is about
making a difference in people’s lives every day. What
a privilege!
Nursing
at High Point Regional is very special and the following Web
pages will give you a glimpse of what makes our jobs so special.
You will see descriptions of the departments where nursing
care is delivered—this includes non-traditional as well
as the traditional sites. You will also find information about
our teams. The role of our teams is to determine why and how
we do our work and how to reward and recognize that work.
These teams have been established and in place for many years
and we are very proud of the work that the members of these
teams do.
It is my honor to serve High Point Regional Health System
and the nurses who work here.
Sincerely,
Tammi Mengel, Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer
