The Department of Pharmacy at High Point
Regional provides services 24 hours-per-day, seven days-per-week
in a recently renovated, state-of-the-art Pharmacy. The Pharmacy
provides services to neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric
patients.
The
scope of service includes:
- Unit dose drug distribution via McKesson Automated
Healthcare Robot to support first doses of medication and
cart fill
- McKesson MedCarousel support of unit specific
AcuDose automated dispensing machines
- McKesson NarcStation automated controlled substance accountability
- Pharmacy supported bedside bar-coding of medications/electronic medication administration record.

IV
Admixture Services including:
- IV medication and fluid preparation
- Chemotherapy preparation
- Computer assisted parenteral nutrition compounding
utilizing Baxa automix device
- Epidural and IV narcotic drip preparation for
pain management
- Computerized medication order entry process with
expected shift to computerized provider order entry
- Adverse event screening (allergies, drug-drug
interactions) and occurrence reporting
- Patient, family and medical staff education
- Provision of training for pharmacy technician
students and pharmacy students
- Drug information for all health care personnel
- Drug regimen review for Restorative Care Unit
patients

Clinical
Pharmacy services including:
- Pharmacokinetic dosing/monitoring of vancomycin
and aminoglycosides
- Dynamic and aggressive IV to PO switch protocols
- Medication monitoring via active ‘Pharmacy
to dose’ programs
- Weight based heparin protocols
- Warfarin protocols
- Antibiotic Review Team assessments
- P&T reviews and presentations
- Renal adjustment protocols
- MUE/DUE opportunities
- Unit based pharmacy assignment providing hands-on
support throughout the Health System, Monday
through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Unit based pharmacists are supported
with the latest technology including wireless
laptops, cell phones, on-line drug information resources and more. Many features
of a patient chart are available electronically, with a paperless
goal
- Provision of collaborative care through interdisciplinary group practice meetings
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory agency guidelines
