Bone Marrow Aspiration/Biopsy - (Journal Date: 2/17/05)

Talk about your pain in the butt!! about a needle inserted into the small of your back into one hip joint (and then the other hip joint just for good measure) at 7:00 a.m. Of course there is some anesthesia involved, but the goal is to extract a small quantity of bone marrow to determine if any cancer has moved to the location where blood cells are actively produced. The only good part was having the nurses check me over after the procedure and rate me a "10" which immediately improved my self-esteem!! We still get some good laughs from that, even though my wife pretends to be jealous.

Later in the day provided some good reading and research time. It also gave us an opportunity to break the news to out-of-state family now that more information was becoming available. Our daughters were reminded that Daddy has a "serious disease" even though he looks and acts fine, but we are working with the best doctors, nurses, and facility to make Daddy well again.
