Thomson Reuters Names High Point Regional Health System A Top-50 Cardiovascular Hospital in the Nation

3/17/2011

According to Thomson Reuters, High Point Regional Health System is one of the Top-50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the nation and the only hospital in North Carolina to make the list.

"It is an honor to achieve a level of excellence that recognizes High Point Regional as one of the top heart hospitals in the nation," said Jeff Miller, president, High Point Regional Health System. "Our cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and staff work hard to achieve and maintain this level of exceptional results for our patients."

According to Thomson Reuters, hospitals were evaluated in four distinct areas: clinical outcome measures, clinical process measures, extended outcome measures and efficiency measures.

Being treated at a Top-50 cardiovascular hospital could mean the difference between life and death. According to the study, if all cardiovascular providers performed at the level of this year's winners, more than 7,500 additional lives could have been saved. In addition, nearly 12,000 additional patients could be complication free and approximately $910 million could be saved.

To receive this ranking, High Point Regional: has a significantly better 30-day survival, returns patients to daily life half a day earlier (on average), maintains lower 30-day readmission rates for heart attack and heart patients and spends an average of $1,300 less per case.
