The Beat Goes On: Atrial Fibrillation Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

January 31, 2018

Atrial Fibrillation also known as AFIB is when the heart develops an irregular and often rapid heartbeat. The heart normally contracts and relaxes to a regular beat but with atrial fibrillation, the upper chambers of the heart (the atria) beat irregularly (quiver) instead of beating effectively to move blood into the ventricles. AFIB is a serious condition which can increase a person’s risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart related issues.
