High Point Regional Named Founding Hospital of Petty's Victory Junction Gang Camp

11/5/2002

High Point Regional Health System has been named a Founding Hospital of The Victory Junction Gang Camp.

Founded by Winston Cup driver Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie Petty in honor of their late son Adam, Victory Junction will provide camp sessions year-round for children ages 7 to 15--and their families--living with life threatening illness. Victory Junction will have unique architectural designs and programming geared towards making every child’s camp experience unforgettable, empowering and medically safe. As an example, “The Body Shop” (the camp’s medical center) will be a state of the art medical facility staffed by multiple volunteer physicians and nurses capable of delivering complex care to children with special needs.

“We are excited to formally recognize our partnership in serving chronically ill children from our area by declaring High Point Regional Health System a Founding Hospital. It means a lot to our family, and to the families who will visit Victory Junction, to have the support of one of the leading medical facilities in the state.” Kyle Petty said.

“As a Founding Hospital, High Point Regional will play a key role in the medical program at Victory Junction,” said Dr. Ticia Myers, Victory Junction’s Medical Director. “In addition to sending staff as representatives to the medical planning committees, Founding Hospitals will provide assistance in equipping and supplying the Victory Junction Medical Center. But, the most exciting part is that High Point physicians and nurses will help to staff Victory Junction. High Point Regional’s enthusiasm exemplifies their commitment to children with chronic illnesses.”

"We are very excited to have a major role in such a worthy cause," said Jeff Miller, President of High Point Regional Health System. "The chance to make a difference for a child with a life threatening disease is truly fulfilling, and is one of the primary reasons that we as healthcare professionals do what we do every day."

Victory Junction Gang Camp will have a racing theme that allows campers to begin their experience by entering the camp through a tunnel and crossing a starting line into the world of racing. When complete, Victory Junction’s 75 acre site will have more than 36 buildings, including a dining hall, gym, pool, theater, therapeutic equestrian center, arts and crafts center, race shop, and 16 camper cabins.

The Victory Junction Gang Camp, a Proud Charity of NASCAR, is scheduled to open June of 2004 and will be free to children and their families.
