Consumer Reports Ranks High Point Medical Center as one of the Top Scoring Hospitals for Heart Surgery in North Carolina
High Point Medical Center’s Carolina Regional Heart Center has been ranked as one of the top scoring hospitals for heart surgery in North Carolina according to Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports rated more than 4,000 hospitals in 45 states on heart surgery in a report to be released in the August 2014 issue. Only 11 hospitals in North Carolina received rankings and only five were ranked as above average, including High Point Medical Center.
“We are proud that the cardiac surgery program at High Point Medical Center has received recognition from Consumer Reports ranking us in the top five in North Carolina for coronary bypass surgery,” said Stephen Mills, MD, FACS. “This represents a tremendous amount of truly excellent work on the part of many individuals include the staff within Pre-Assessment, Day Hospital, Anesthesia, Operating Room, Coronary Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care, Cardiac Telemetry Unit, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Vascular Lab, Inpatient Rehabilitation and our Heart Strides Program. We are very fortunate to be able to work with such outstanding individuals.”
Hospitals were ranked on two types of heart surgeries: surgical aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The ratings are based on the gold standard in tracking hospital performance: data from patients’ medical records showing whether patients survived the procedure and how they fared on other important measures, including complications. The information comes from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), which represents physicians who operate on the heart and other organs in the chest.
“We are extremely proud to be recognized as a top scoring heart surgery hospital in North Carolina," said Ernie Bovio, President and CEO of High Point Medical Center. “This truly demonstrates that our cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists and clinicians are among the best in their field.”
